A creamy, layered dessert mimicking the famous Magnolia Bakery style, using instant pudding and whipped topping for ease.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 (14 ounce) can sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 (5 ounce) box instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 1 (3.4 ounce) box instant banana pudding mix
  • 4 cups cold water
  • 1 (8 ounce) container frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • 1 (12 ounce) box vanilla wafers
  • 4 large ripe bananas, sliced

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the sweetened condensed milk, both instant pudding mixes, and the cold water for two minutes.
  2. Let the mixture stand for five minutes to allow it to thicken.
  3. Gently fold in the thawed whipped topping until just combined. Do not overmix.
  4. In a large serving bowl or individual cups, begin layering the ingredients. Start with a layer of vanilla wafers.
  5. Arrange a layer of sliced bananas over the wafers.
  6. Spoon about one-third of the pudding mixture over the bananas.
  7. Repeat the layers: wafers, bananas, pudding, until all ingredients are used, ending with a layer of pudding.
  8. Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap.
  9. Refrigerate for at least four hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the wafers to soften.

Notes

  • For the best texture, chill the pudding for a minimum of six hours so the vanilla wafers absorb moisture.
  • Use slightly under-ripe bananas if you prefer less mushiness after chilling.
  • You can use homemade custard instead of instant pudding for a richer, old-fashioned flavor.
