Prepare a quick and flavorful shrimp dish coated in a sticky, sweet, and spicy honey garlic sauce, served over steamed rice.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup uncooked white rice
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon sriracha (adjust to your spice preference)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 green onion, sliced (for garnish)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Cook the rice according to package directions. Keep warm.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, honey, sriracha, rice vinegar, minced garlic, and grated ginger. This is your sauce.
  3. Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
  4. Add the shrimp to the hot skillet in a single layer. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes per side until pink. Do not overcook.
  5. Reduce the heat to medium. Add the butter to the skillet.
  6. Pour the prepared sauce over the shrimp. Stir constantly as the sauce thickens, about 1 to 2 minutes, until the shrimp is fully coated and the sauce is sticky.
  7. Remove the skillet from the heat immediately.
  8. To assemble the bowls, divide the cooked rice among serving bowls. Top the rice with the sauced shrimp.
  9. Garnish each bowl with sliced green onion and sesame seeds. Serve immediately.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, you can stir-fry 1 cup of frozen mixed vegetables with the shrimp before adding the sauce.
  • If you prefer a milder spice level, start with 1 teaspoon of sriracha and taste the sauce before adding more.
  • Use jasmine or basmati rice for the best texture with this dish.
