Ingredients
Scale
12 fresh jalapeño peppers
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup panko breadcrumbs
Cooking spray
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly coat it with cooking spray.
Put on gloves to protect your hands from the pepper oils. Slice each jalapeño lengthwise down the middle. Use a small spoon or knife to carefully scoop out the seeds and white membranes. Remember, removing more membrane reduces the heat.
In a medium bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, cheddar cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and salt. Mix until the filling is smooth and well combined. This is your delicious cream cheese stuffed jalapeños filling.
Spoon or pipe the cheese mixture evenly into the hollowed-out jalapeño halves. Do not overfill.
Place the filled peppers, cut-side up, on the prepared baking sheet.
Sprinkle the panko breadcrumbs evenly over the top of the cheese filling on each popper.
Lightly spray the breadcrumbs with cooking spray to help them brown.
Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, or until the peppers are tender and the topping is golden brown and bubbly.
Let the baked jalapeño poppers cool for a few minutes before serving. Give yourself a high-five for making this great spicy appetizer poppers!
Notes
Wear gloves when handling jalapeños to prevent skin irritation.
For bacon wrapped poppers, wrap half a strip of bacon around each filled pepper before baking and adjust the cook time as needed until the bacon is crisp.
If you prefer a milder flavor, soak the halved peppers in ice water for 15 minutes before stuffing.
