Ingredients
Scale
2 large apples (Honeycrisp, Fuji, or Gala recommended)
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 225°F (107°C).
Wash and dry the apples.
Core the apples. You can use an apple corer or carefully slice around the core.
Slice the apples as thinly as possible. A mandoline slicer is ideal for uniform slices, but a sharp knife works too. Aim for slices about 1/16 to 1/8 inch thick.
Arrange the apple slices in a single layer on baking sheets lined with parchment paper. Do not overlap them.
In a small bowl, mix the cinnamon and nutmeg (if using). Sprinkle evenly over the apple slices.
Bake for 2-3 hours, flipping the slices halfway through. They should be slightly crisp and dry, but not browned.
Turn off the oven and leave the apple chips inside with the door slightly ajar for another hour to ensure they are fully dried and crisp.
Let the apple chips cool completely on the baking sheets before serving.
Notes
For crispier chips, bake for an additional 30 minutes, or until they reach your desired crispness.
Store cooled apple chips in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
Feel free to experiment with other spices like cardamom or ginger.
