Ingredients
Scale
1 (21 ounce) can refrigerated cinnamon rolls (8 rolls total)
4 medium apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and sliced
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
1 tablespoon butter, melted
1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
1 tablespoon milk (for glaze)
Instructions
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit. Lightly grease a 9-inch pie dish.
In a medium bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Toss gently to coat the apples evenly.
Pour the apple mixture into the prepared pie dish. Sprinkle the brown sugar evenly over the apples. Dot the top with the melted butter.
Pour the 1/4 cup of water around the edges of the apple mixture in the dish.
Unroll the cinnamon rolls. Cut each roll in half crosswise. Place the halves cut-side down over the apple filling, arranging them to cover most of the surface. They will expand during baking.
Bake for 35 to 45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbly.
While the pie bakes, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk in a small bowl to create a thin glaze.
Remove the bake from the oven and let it cool for 15 minutes. Drizzle the prepared glaze over the warm cinnamon roll topping before serving.
Notes
If you prefer a crispier topping, bake uncovered for the entire time.
Use firm apples to prevent the filling from becoming too mushy.
You can use the icing packets provided with the cinnamon rolls instead of making a separate glaze.
