Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 cups peeled, cored, and sliced apples (about 6 medium apples)
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup (1/2 stick) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples with 2 tablespoons of flour, 1/4 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
  3. Pour the apple mixture into a 9×13 inch baking dish. Drizzle the melted butter over the apples.
  4. In a separate bowl, combine 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, cream of tartar, and 1/4 teaspoon salt.
  5. Add the softened butter to the dry ingredients. Mix with a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  6. Stir in the egg and vanilla extract until just combined. The cookie dough will be soft.
  7. Drop spoonfuls of the cookie dough evenly over the apple mixture.
  8. Bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbly.
  9. Let the cobbler cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for an extra treat.
  • You can adjust the spices to your preference.
  • Ensure your butter for the topping is softened but not melted for the best texture.
