- 6 corn tortillas
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon chili powder (optional)
- Cut the corn tortillas into thin strips, about 1/4 inch wide.
- Place the strips in a bowl. Drizzle with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and chili powder, if using. Toss until the strips are lightly coated.
- Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
- Place the seasoned tortilla strips in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Work in batches if necessary to avoid overcrowding.
- Air fry for 6 to 9 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through the cooking time.
- Continue cooking until the strips are golden brown and crisp. Check them frequently after the 6-minute mark to prevent burning.
- Remove from the air fryer and let them cool slightly before serving; they will crisp up more as they cool.
Notes
- Use corn tortillas for the best traditional chip texture. Flour tortillas tend to become chewy rather than crisp.
- Do not overlap the strips in the basket; air needs to circulate around each piece for even crisping.
- If the strips are not fully crisp after the initial time, return them to the air fryer for 1 to 2 minute intervals until done.
